The believer has all it takes to halt this plague. In Judges 6, it is written in verse 12 that an angel appeared to Gideon and called him a mighty man of valor. In verse 13, Gideon said to Him, “O my lord, if the LORD is with us, why then has all this happened to us? And where are all His miracles which our fathers told us about, saying, ‘Did not the LORD bring us up from Egypt?’ But now the LORD has forsaken us and delivered us into the hands of the Midianites.”

Looking at the world today, the corona virus pandemic has become what the Midianites were to the Israelites. The Midianites did not fight Israel with guns and swords. They destroyed their farmlands, erasing food security. Verses 4-6 of Judges 6 are clear on this: Then they would encamp against them and destroy the produce of the earth as far as Gaza, and leave no sustenance for Israel, neither sheep nor ox nor donkey. For they would come up with their livestock and their tents, coming in as numerous as locusts; both they and their camels were without number; and they would enter the land to destroy it.  So Israel was greatly impoverished because of the Midianites, and the children of Israel cried out to the LORD.”

COVID-19, in a short while, like the Midianites, has destroyed and is destroying the economy of hundreds of millions of individuals and businesses. Many are questioning whether the Lord is still in control. Where are His miracles men of faith told us about? Could the testimonies about John G. Lake be true? What has happened to the anointing of people like Smith Wigglesworth? What are the disciples of Kenneth E. Hagin saying? Did such men lie to us in their videos and books? Where is the God of Apostle Ayo Babalola? What is Benny Hinn doing? Is the God of Adeboye sleeping? Why is it taking long for God to deliver humanity from this scourge, and the accompanying fear which threatens to be deadlier than the virus itself? We can continue to query but one thing remains sure till eternity:  God is still on the throne. Nothing would ever reduce that truth by an inch!

It is time for us to look inward. Are we doing what the great apostles of faith did? Living in sin and expecting grace to abound is foolishness.

If you were Gideon, would you have believed if an angel appeared to you saying, “The LORD is with you, you mighty man of valour!” Would you not have responded how Gideon did in the following verse where he queried if the Lord had not forsaken His people? What the Lord told Gideon is the word He has for you in these times.

Then the LORD turned to him and said, “Go in this might of yours, and you shall save Israel from the hand of the Midianites. Have I not sent you?” (Judges 6:14)

I wish you can see the Lord turning to you dear reader. Yes, His focus is on you as you read on. Can’t you see Him pointing and calling you by your first name saying “_____________ , go in this might of yours”? You may look feeble; you may even be worse in stammering than Moses. You could appear disadvantaged but once God calls your name, just believe. Jesus told ten lepers to go and wash in a pool.  They had to obey before there was any manifestation on their skin. When Jesus asked the man who had been lame for 38 years to rise, to take up his bed and walk, he had to comply in faith before he was made whole (John 5). He told a blind man to go and wash in the pool of Siloam. When he obeyed, he received his sight (John 9:7).

“You have the might to conquer COVID-19!”, He told me!!!

“How?” I queried. I am not in the medical line. I am not a scientist. I have never performed any experiment in any lab.

The look on His face reflected He was disappointed. Like a confused teenager, I sought a clue from His expression. Then I realised Gideon was not to fight the enemies alone. He could muster men to do that. Do I not have the capacity to muster men to fight a spiritual battle against COVID-19? Can I not cry to the Lord and make others do the same till rains of mercy gush out of heaven and wash away this plague?

Can’t I intercede for doctors and paramedical teams at the battle front? Can’t I ask God to give them a clue to resolving this mystery? Can’t I help the needy, can’t I dampen the effects of the lockdown on the underprivileged? Can I not raise the hopes of people and build their faith to know that although the enemy, who sowed these tares meant it for evil, it would only result into something good?

My eyes popped open. It was as if there were connecting cables which raised my hands and untied my tongues. I began to sing. Before I knew it, my legs were moving to rhythms of praise. Alas, the power that raised Jesus from the dead had quickened me!

I see victory. With the power of Christ’s resurrection, a believer has all it takes to halt this plague. Join me in celebrating, in proclaiming victory. A victory won on Calvary’s tree. We are not fighting for it, we are fighting from VICTORY. The virus hates one word, Halleluyah. Let’ unleash the power of exalting Jesus against the forces of illness.

Happy Easter.
